For over 15 years, the American Palestinian Relief Association (APRA) has stood as a pillar of hope, compassion, and unwavering support for Palestinian families, especially in Gaza. Registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in California, APRA has dedicated its mission to serving displaced families, traumatized children, and vulnerable communities caught in the grip of ongoing humanitarian crises.
A Lifeline for Thousands: APRA’s Longstanding Humanitarian Mission
APRA’s mission is rooted in a deep commitment to deliver aid, restore dignity, and uplift lives through sustainable support systems. Over the years, APRA has launched numerous life-saving projects focused on:
- Emergency relief during conflicts
- Psychological support for children
- Housing reconstruction for displaced families
- Food security and basic needs assistance
- Education and scholarship programs
- Ongoing support for orphans and widows
From tents to homes, from trauma to healing, APRA works to meet the evolving needs of communities devastated by war and poverty.
Transforming Lives Through Psychological Support
One of APRA’s most impactful programs is its psychological support initiative for children. Many Palestinian children in Gaza have been deeply traumatized by war, displacement, and the loss of family members. APRA addresses this invisible yet urgent crisis by creating child-friendly spaces—tent classrooms and community centers—where children receive emotional care, counseling, and a safe environment to heal and learn.
These programs not only help children manage their trauma but also reintegrate them into school systems, enhance their emotional resilience, and give them tools to imagine a future beyond violence.
Rebuilding Hope: Housing and Shelter Projects
In response to widespread displacement caused by war and destruction, APRA has prioritized rebuilding homes for the homeless. The organization has successfully built and furnished 17 houses for families who lost everything. These homes represent more than just shelter—they restore stability, dignity, and the sense of security that every family deserves.
Each housing project is tailored to meet a family’s specific needs, including kitchen appliances, furnishings, and winter protection, turning bare walls into true homes.
Meeting Basic Needs Amid Crisis
The harsh living conditions in Palestine demand consistent humanitarian intervention. APRA provides comprehensive basic needs assistance, including:
- Food baskets during Ramadan and throughout the year
- Zakat and Sadaqah distributions
- Infant essentials like milk and diapers
- Kitchenware and household items for displaced families
- Bakery support to ensure access to fresh bread
Over 10,000 families have benefitted from APRA’s food security efforts alone. These vital supplies help communities withstand the daily pressures of poverty, blockade, and instability.
Supporting Orphans and Future Generations
The number of orphaned children in Gaza has grown drastically in recent years. APRA offers ongoing monthly sponsorships to ensure these children have access to food, clean clothes, school supplies, and emotional care. For as little as $60/month, donors can sponsor an orphan and provide hope for a child with no other lifeline.
In parallel, APRA supports university scholarships and school tuition for young Palestinians, believing that education is the most powerful tool for long-term empowerment.
A Growing Impact with a Global Community
What started as a compassionate response to a single image of suffering has grown into a dynamic nonprofit powered by five operational teams and over 30 volunteers, working across five regions. APRA continues to expand its programs, build partnerships, and raise awareness around the world.
Through transparent work, dedicated volunteers, and compassionate donors, APRA has become a trusted source of relief for Palestinians in need—and a reminder that humanity has no borders.
